Day 11

11 days after my double jaw surgery, and I feel pretty good. I've regained, so it seems, all of the feeling in my lower lip, but maybe 10% on my upper lip. The right side of my mouth seems to have more movement than my left, and the left just kind of sits there when I talk or smile. I hope it's not permanent. Today I took a flashlight and shined it into my mouth to see how I'm brushing. Yuk. The very back brackets on my last molars are pretty gross cause I was taking it easy as I brushed since I'm still sorta swollen. Even now, its hard to brush cause the stitches are still there and my swollen cheeks sorta engulf whatever space I have on the outer parts of my teeth. The good part is I can open my mouth JUST enough to fit a child's toothbrush into my mouth so I can FINALLY brush my tougue and the insides of my teeth. WHAT A RELIEF.


Well it seems like I'm healing ok. The I think the stitches on the right of my mouth might have busted open, cause now it's healing with 2 chunks of cheeks and a large valley. On the left side, the bottom is healing ok, but the top left seems to be the most swollen.

What I'm concerned about:
Yesterday, when I was talking to my friend, I think I might have squeezed some air through the sutures into the upper left part of my mouth. That night, blood juice kept getting squished out of the upper left part of my mouth when I would apply lightish pressure to the outside of my cheek. I could move the air bubble from the outside of my cheek and so I tried to push it out. When I did that, the blood juice either flowed out of the sutures, or up and out through my nostril. That didn't hurt or anything, but it was kinda scary.

Also, when I feel the outside of my mouth/cheeks, the right side feels normal, though the left side has 2 harder parts to it. Like scar tissue underneath or something--but it doesnt feel normal.

I just hope it continues healing well.

Movements of the lips:
I can't really smile right now because it seems like the sutures have made the upper lip very tight. Also, the left side of my lips seems to not cooperate and kinda just sits there when I smile, skewing my smile to the right side of my face. Also, when I try to make my mouth into an "O" shape, the upper lip's middle point skews to the left. Gnarly.
